Corollary Parts of Plants

Have you heard of them?

While I’m not totally back in action, I felt the overwhelming desire to create and get back to some sense of normalcy. As some of you know, the last 6 weeks have been a little unsettling, to say the least. I’ve moved twice, only one move was planned. To say it’s triggered a lot and that I’ve been feeling unsettled, ungrounded and insecure is an understatement. I’ve felt stunned and stunted, and it took all my focus and attention.

I didn’t want to commit to feeling like for the rest of eternity, I wanted to get back to whatever regular life looked like now and I wanted to cook and nourish myself. Enter root veggies. As I’ve been feeling a lack of roots, foundation, a lack of home and a lack of grounding, I wanted to use root veggies as the corollary, or energetic, parts of said plants are said to be it’s achor or foundation. They receive all the nutrients from the ground and when eaten, they provide us with the same overall and promote that feeling both mentally and physically. This is what I was craving!

Yesterday morning, I made veggie stock with a lot of carrots, beets and sweet potatoes as well as onions, celery and garlic.

Yesterday evening, I made a parsnip puree with pickled shallots, toasted sesame oil and pumpkin seeds to aid in hormone balancing and providing some magnesium, which helps energy production and fights depression.
It felt good to cook to take photos and to write. I also slept like a champ and I do feel somewhat better, more grounded and a little more foundation. I realize these things take time, but let me tell you, an overwhelming sense of impatience is present. I know this is a situation, and it’s how I respond to it that is what’s important and I also realize that this is an opportunity from which to learn and grow, but I’m ready to resume some sense of normalcy.

Bonus! You can see my reflection in the spoon. I thought it added some fun and flavor.

What do you do when you’re feeling unsettled and ungrounded?
