I always bring the fun topics to the table right?
My cinnamon rolls were often requested. In fact, a friend from work asked me to make them if he quit or got fired. He quit. I made good on that promise.
But my cinnamon rolls were gluten festival, & as the proud owner of celiac, I had to find another recipe. You see, yeast & gluten go together like Sonny & Cher or Bert & Ernie. The absence of gluten makes things with yeast a tad more challenging. I’ve tried, and failed, several times to make gluten free cinnamon rolls. But hard work and determination are the name of the game. I tried another recipe & added my signature ingredient of orange zest to the gooey center, which is always a crowd pleaser. While they were not pillowy soft, they were still quite delectable. I’ll keep at it.
Yeasts are fungi that grow individually or in small clusters of cells that feed on sugar & starch and there are many species.
Such as the type used in baking and brewing beer. They’re what give breads and cinnamon rolls that pillowy softness.
There is nutritional yeast, which is popular in vegan cooking as it imparts a cheesy, nutty or savory flavor. I use it often. It’s the same type of yeast that’s used to bake bread and brew beer, though the yeast cells are purposely killed during manufacturing.
And there is yeast in our bodies that help keep the digestive system healthy and in balance as they help us absorb vitamins and minerals from our food. The right amount helps your immune system do its job as it’s part of the microbiome. However, if yeast grows out of control, that’ll lead to health problems like: digestive issues, tiredness and fatigue, sinus infections & joint pain. Hi 👋🏼 inflammation!
Some things that exacerbate the growth of yeast in the body are:
❌Antibiotics as it kills ALL bacteria, both good and bad
❌Eating a diet high in sugar and refined carbs as yeast feeds on sugars and starch
❌High alcohol intake
❌High stress levels
