Did you know that a yam and a sweet potato are not the same? While they are often times used interchangeably, that’s not always the move. There are some differences. Yams have a tougher skin, are much more starchy than sweet, are an entirely different root vegetable and their insides are white, red or purple. Sweet potatoes can be a variety of colors like those mentioned above as well as the well known copper/orange color. I know, mind blown!
Yams are high in fiber and loaded with vitamins and minerals like copper, potassium, manganese and magnesium. The latter is said to aid in sleep. Which we could always use some high quality z’s! They’re easy to add to the diet as you can roast or mash them just like a potato.
