Young Lords and NADA Acupuncture

Young Lords and NADA Acupuncture

Have you ever heard of them? Let’s just say both are pretty dope.

The Young Lords are a civil and human rights organization that started in Chicago in the late 1960s and made its way to NYC.

They are credited with bringing Auricular (ear) Acupuncture, commonly called the NADA protocol, to NYC after seeing a doctor in Thailand use it to treat and aid in the detox of those addicted to drugs.

NADA stands for the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association. It’s a 5 point system that helps to detox the body of chemicals and reduces stress, depression and anxiety. It’s essentially 5 points of zen.

I’ve spent the last week learning, receiving and administering the technique alongside some of the Young Lords who brought the practice to NYC. I worked at @nyhre (NY Harm Reduction Educators) in Harlem. To say it’s been an incredible, inspiring and humbling experience is a vast understatement.

NADA can be performed with needles or ear seeds/beads, which are generally made out of silver, gold or platinum and apply pressure to the points. The beads provide acupressure and can be kept on for 3 days.

I’m now certified to administer the protocol and I’m super excited!

Would you try ear acupuncture or seeds to reduce stress, depression and anxiety and being about an entirely new level of calm, ease and zen?
