Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting is a thing and I am here for it. I used to say I fasted between meals, but once I have it a whirl, I was a convert.

While fasting isn’t new, the benefits and it’s popularity have gained a lot of traction. Humans have fasted over time and are actually designed to do so, sometimes out of necessity. Grocery stores and restaurants weren’t always on the map, people had to hunt or gather their food. Some rreligions incorporate fasting and now we can add gut health and overall wellbeing to the list of reasons people fast.

Fasting helps your cells repair, your digestive system to have some down time (we ALL need it), helps to stabilize insulin and hormone levels and of course, the all mighty fat loss! It also helps your overall cognitive function because it helps repair your gut . You’ll also be wowed with your physical prowess. I practice yoga on an empty stomach and it’s a game changer.

Intermittent fasting, or time restricted eating, centers around when you should eat versus what you should eat. And when you eat, the focus should always be on health supportive, nutrient dense, whole foods.

There are a few days to do intermittent fasting.

The way I fast regularly is is the 16/8 method, where I will go up to 16 hours between my last meal of the previous day and the first meal of the current day and only eat during 8 hours of the day. I’ve also done (and will do again) a 5 day fast mimicking diet to reset my system and correct inflammation.

You can go a 24 hours a couple of days/week.

You can restrict your caloric intake to 500-600 calories/day 2 days a week.

I broke my fast today after a 90 minute hot yoga class with Strawberry, Raspberry, Peaches and Matcha Chia Pudding and some celery juice. It’s a perfect situation when you’re on the go.


🕰 1 cup non dairy milk

🕰1/4 cup chia seeds

🕰1 tbsp maple syrup

🕰1 packet or 1 tbsp powdered matcha

🕰1 tbsp maca powder (optional)

🕰1 tbsp tocos (optional)

Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl, cover and refrigerate overnight. Top with fruit and toasted coconut.
